IMG 0118

Jointly organized by UN-Habitat and GIZ, the first SUSTRAN Forum and Regional Workshop were held in Nairobi, Kenya on October 30th and 31st. Each of the events attracted 30 participants.

The Forum and Regional Workshop included participants from regional governments and authorities from the three partner cities Nairobi, Kampala and Addis Ababa, as well as from UN-Habitat, UNEP, GIZ and the international consultants TRL and ITDP. To complement the partner cities' work on their BRT demonstration corridors, stakeholders from Dar-es-Salaam, Lagos and Johannesburg attended the forum to share information about their BRT projects in order to facilitate an exchange of knowledge.

While on October 30th the Forum was used as a regional platform to exchange information and experiences related to the SUSTRAN Project, the Regional Workshop on October 31st contributed towards identifying and solving current challenges in the three partner cities. The Regional Workshop specifically focused on integrated "MRT planning", "BRT business planning & industry transition" as well as "integrated planning, institutions, and transit associations" as key steps towards sustainable urban transport.
