Uganda’s first solar-powered bus

In Kampala, Kiira Motors' electric bus was displayed recently at a stadium in Kampala. The bus is driven by a traction motor run by a battery, which is loaded by electricity generated from the solar panels on the bus roof. The bus seats 35 passengers and has a range of 80 kilometers on full charge, extended by the supplement energy from the solar panels during the ride. The price for the bus is estimated at around USD 140,000, but costs of about 55,000 are expected once the bus can be mass produced. An official date for the bus to run on Kampala’s streets has not been set yet.
