Addis Ababa: Road Safety workshop for the B2 BRT corridor

A short mission to Addis Ababa was undertaken by TRL in May 2016. The primary aim of the visit was to run a specific workshop for the Transport Programs Management Office (TPMO) to give the designers of the BRT system an understanding of safety issues around BRT and how this can be designed in to the system. Participants from AACRA, the TPMO, AFD, C40 and the consultant of the ongoing detailed design (SAFEGE) have attended the workshop and shared their views on the road safety aspects of the B2 BRT corridor.

The workshop was delivered by TRL expert Tawab Kazemi, technical director of TRL Dubai and certified road safety auditor. The workshop addressed in detail the road safety aspects that are essential for the design of the B2 BRT corridor. Furthermore, it concluded with a series of recommendations to improve road safety in the design of the BRT project.

TRL is expected to provide a full road safety audit to the design of the B2 BRT corridor with the aim to recommend improvements that will strengthen the road safety of the new BRT system in Addis Ababa.
